NNCGSI winner takes her research to the RCN International Nursing Research Conference
Saja Yassin from Sudan, winner of the Nursing Now Challenge Global Solutions Initiative (NNCGSI), will today present her work via video to participants at the Royal College of Nursing International Nursing Research Conference.
Saja is a final-year nursing student at Nile University, Sudan, and serves as the Head of the Scientific Research and Training Office at the Nile University Students Association. She is an aspiring nurse researcher with a strong interest in digital health, nursing research, leadership, and is committed to advancing evidence-based practice and empowering students through research capacity building.
Today, Saja will share her winning ideas at the RCN International Nursing Research conference, alongside Programme Director of the Nursing Now Challenge, Professor Gemma Stacey, highlighting the contribution of early-career nurses and midwives to research and their potential to use evidence to drive positive change in healthcare.
This presentation marks an important milestone following Saja’s success in the NNCGSI, a programme delivered through a collaboration between the Nursing Now Challenge and the Royal College of Nursing’s Institute for Nursing Excellence.
The initiative focused on research and on supporting student and early-career nurses and midwives around the world to develop their skills and confidence in research. Participants were supported to explore how research can be embedded within nursing and midwifery roles and to develop practical, context-specific research projects that could be applied within their own organisations and settings.
The collaboration with the RCN’s Institute for Nursing Excellence reflects the wider ambition of the Nursing Now Challenge Global Solutions Initiative: to support nurses and midwives to develop, share and scale innovative solutions to pressing global health and workforce challenges. Through structured learning, collaboration and access to global expertise, the initiative aims to help participants translate their ideas into practical solutions.

“I was in utter disbelief when I opened that email. Being selected for the Global Solutions Initiative Research Theme Award – and having the opportunity to present my work at the Royal College of Nursing Research Conference – is an incredible honour.
I have always believed in the power of research to turn everyday nursing challenges into evidence-based solutions that strengthen our profession and, ultimately, improve the care patients receive.
Taking part in the Nursing Now Challenge’s Global Solutions Initiative has been one of the most transformative learning experiences of my journey. Learning directly from visionary researchers and leaders who continue to shape our profession has been both deeply inspiring and profoundly humbling. I’m deeply grateful to the Nursing Now Challenge for placing genuine trust in nursing students and early-career nurses to contribute to meaningful change.
My heartfelt thanks go to my supervisor, Dr Sintieh Ekongefeyin, for his guidance, mentorship, and unwavering belief in me every step of the way.
I aspire to carry this work beyond the page – towards a practical, evidence-based roadmap for the safe digital transformation of paper-based nursing documentation in Sudan.
Above all, I dedicate this recognition to Sudanese nurses, who continue to serve and care under extraordinarily difficult circumstances. This is, and will always be, for them.”
