Nurses from Nigeria & Australia announced as the winners of recent NNCGSI in collaboration with FoNS
The Nursing Now Challenge and the Foundation of Nursing Studies are delighted to announce the winners of the recent Clinical Supervision NNCGSI.
Over the course of four weeks, the Nursing Now Challenge and the Foundation of Nursing Studies ran three sessions to provide a deep dive into the field of Clinical Supervision.
- Session 1: What is clinical supervision and why should we support clinical supervision in practice?
- Session 2: What represents good clinical supervision from an individual perspective and an organisational perspective?
- Session 3: How to engage people in positive conversations around clinical supervision?
Today we are delighted to announce that the winners of this NNCGSI are Lois Ezebuiro and Alicia McKenna.
- Lois Ezebuiro
- Alicia McKenna
“I’m thrilled to be selected as a winner of the NNCGSI. It’s incredibly encouraging to have my work recognised, and I’m excited about the opportunities this brings to further explore and contribute to solutions in this space.”
Lois Ezebuiro, Registered Nurse, Nigeria.
“I am excited to participate in this programme and to work towards increasing active participation in clinical supervision in regional areas.”
Alicia McKenna, Registered Nurse, Australia.
Lois and Alicia will now have the opportunity to join one of the Resilience-based Clinical Supervision (RBCS) Champion and Cascade Programmes and become a member of the RBCS Network. They will also each take along two of their colleagues to benefit from this groundbreaking programme and supportive community of global nurses. The aim of this programme is to enable the winners and their colleagues to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and confidence to implement RBCS for others. This is a participatory programme so not only will the winners develop the skills to take this back to their workplace but they will network and form connections with the other winners to support each other and experience RBCS “live.”
What is Resilience-based Clinical Supervision?
Resilience-based Clinical Supervision (RBCS) is a form of restorative clinical supervision which focuses on the ‘emotional systems motivating the response to a situation’ and includes elements of mindfulness-based exercises with a view to ‘enhancing wellbeing, resilience and improving care.
RBCS is a facilitated reflective discussion, characterised by…
- Co-creating a safe space
- Integrating mindfulness-based stress-reduction exercises
- Focusing on the emotional systems motivating our response to a situation
- Considering the role of our internal critic in sustaining or underpinning our response to a situation
- Maintaining a compassionate flow to self and consequently to others
Evaluation of the impact of RBCS suggests that it can help individuals to develop an increased awareness of the importance of self-care and question organisational practices which impact negatively on staff (including their own) and patient wellbeing.
